M.O (Modus Operandi) are your new favourite girl band with a twist. Three like-minded friends based in London, they clearly have the world well in their sights. Their mission to conquer the globe with their 2014 version of 90’s pop & R&B begins here – with the release of their first single proper ‘For A Minute’ on April 13th via Operator Records.
Three incredible singers with stupidly good self-penned songs, Nadine, Annie and Frankee spent most of 2013 writing and working with an array of great producers – Shek’spere (Destiny’s Child/TLC), Preditah, Gorgon City, Two Inch Punch, WOZ and Parker & Mikey J to name a few. ‘For A Minute’ is co-written with another girl of the moment, Jess Glynne and produced by Bless Beats.
M.O steadily won over supporters amongst key online and radio tastemakers across last year with their low-key tracks such as ‘Wait Your Turn’, ‘Aint Got Time’ (produced by RackNRuin) and ‘Hot’. The reaction to anything the girls put up was instant with their ever growing fan base helping them clock up over 1 MILLION views on YouTube so far.
Their recent offering – ‘On Ya’ was uploaded late last year and gave fans another slice of their 90’s tinged amalgamation of pop, current underground dance and lashings of old school RnB.  Radio 1Xtra are already huge supporters with MistaJam making it his Single Of The Week.
With 2014 firmly underway, ‘For A Minute’ is set to up the game for pop music this year. While the band are passionate about taking elements of the underground scene, such as house, garage and UK base, they also know their way around huge pop melodies.
That pop element is key to what they create with all these amazing producers. This displays, not only the band’s versatility of working with different people, but why they stand out so much from the crowd.
“What makes us different is that there’s no one else that sounds like us,” suggests Nadine. “The way we dress, our sound, everything. There hasn’t been a girl group for ages that can make an old school-inspired garage track with pop hooks and get it played on 1Xtra like we have. The support we’ve had has been amazing. I don’t think there’s anyone out there doing what we’re doing.”
Plus – their message is Good. Their songs are littered with affirming, strong and empowering messages for girls – just as it should be. Annie, Nadine and Frankee are firmly in control of their own future, which looks set to be massive.
