Underground champion DJ Monki aka Lucy Monkman announces the first release of the year on her burgeoning Zoo Music imprint from a rising artist who goes by the name of TIEKS.
He’s not pulling any punches with debut release ‘Cake’, a tribute to the sadly recently deceased Louisiana rapper Ceddybu.
The track shows off Tieks’ dancefloor dexterity to a tee, welding a hard-edged Chicago influenced rhythm with his trademark 808-led groove and the late Ceddybu’s chopped vocals.
No newcomer, behind the scenes Mark Tieku aka TIEKS is responsible for co-writes with the likes of Duke Dumont and Florence & The Machine, and his production skills have already been called upon by Rudimental who nabbed a remix for their latest track ‘Powerless’.
Catching the production bug after recording with Grammy nominee Duke, TIEKS has been holed up in the studio, arming himself with the kind of ammo that will allow him to have his cake and eat it.
”It’s always wicked to get an exciting bit of new music sent to you by an artist that hasn’t popped up on your radar before,” Monki commented. “Although TIEKS is actually no stranger to the studio I think you’ll be hearing his name a lot more this year and I’m looking forward to sharing ‘Cake’ with everyone!”
