Following on from his ‘Tonight EP in early 2013, TOURIST continued his prolific musical development with the release of his track ‘Together’ late last year that found TOURIST at his most dance orientated. An emotive deep house track with pitch-shifted vocals and whispers of electro – and one that stirred up the online world to kick-start the campaign for his forthcoming ‘Patterns EP’ for 2014, Released on Disclosure affiliated label, Method Records!

The full EP showcases Tourist’s shift to a more progressive and intricate understanding of his role as producer that lead him to working with vocalists for the first time. Within Tourist there has always lurked the potential for a massive pop track, and here he’s birthed two potential hits. ‘I Can’t Keep Up’ is a stripped back club-pop track, with soaring vocals from Will Heard, while the EP’s title track, ‘Patterns’ opens with hints of italo and disco, as Lianne La Havas croons gently.

Deep house and club-pop aside, behind this polished and digitally produced sound, still lurks a true musical soul. Throughout past EPs, Tourist has had a keen interest in organic field recordings, and everyday sounds from his house are manipulated into rhythmic elements to provide the drums for ‘I Can’t Keep Up’. And his musical contributions often stretch further than Tourist with long time writing partner Jimmy Napes. Napes co-wrote UK top 20 hit ‘Latch’ for Disclosure and Sam Smith, and Tourist worked with him in writing another track for Smith’s forthcoming album. The man also eagerly turns his hand to a remix or two – most notably for Chvrches and Haim last year.
