British singer Fabienne is set to release her debut EP ‘City of Shadows’ on March 10th via Super Recordings (AlunaGeorge, Bondax). Raw and heartfelt, this is an EP to sum up the long, and hazy days of Summer.

The lyrical content of Adam Jordan-produced (New Machine) lead track ‘City of Shadows’ (which premiered on BBC 1XTRA show via DJ CJ Beatz on 17/02/14) is Fabienne’s story of moving to London. While tracks such as ‘Sunstroke’ and ‘Mary Jane & Joseph’ amplify Fabienne’s love of soulful, upbeat melodies.

Fabienne was born in Bradford, UK and spent her school years listening to the likes of Kanye West, N.E.R.D and J’Dilla. These artists have been key to Fabienne’s developing interest in the art of sampling; in particular old 60’s soul records.

When Fabienne was 15, she wrote to Atlantic Records- New York about an intern as she loved its connection with soul music. She was accepted and began interning there and developing her love for live music, regularly attending open mic nights in the city.

Shortly afterwards Fabienne met Betty Wright, a legendary soul singer and songwriter (Joss Stone, The Roots) the pair struck an unlikely friendship and Betty started to mentor the then 16 year old aspiring artist. It was with Betty Wright that Fabienne began to write songs of her own.

After graduating from LIPA last year, Fabienne moved to London where she began fronting the resident soul band at ‘The Arts Club’ in Mayfair. It was here that her live influences, such as Aretha Franklin and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings came to the forefront whilst continuing her on going relationships with writers and producers to create the music that became the City Of shadows EP.

Being tipped as one of the 25 under 25 rising stars in London by The Evening Standard, previous support from CJ Beatz and Dj Target at 1 XTRA, Fabienne’s sights are set on making waves with her music this year.
The lead single & title track from this EP has already enjoyed support from tastemakers across Vertex FM .

The set is produced by New Machine (Plan B, Maverick Sabre) and draws on all her influences from Dilla to old skool Stax, Aretha and more.
